There are two styles of vaping, related to the way in which you inhale on the device.
‘Mouth to Lung’ (MTL) is the same style as smoking a cigarette. This is generally a tight draw, where you draw the vape, into your mouth, THEN inhale into your lungs. Devices of this style tend to be less powerful, offer smaller mouthpieces and generate a more discreet amount of vapour/cloud production.
‘Direct to Lung’ (DTL/DL) is the same style as a shisha or water pipe, where you take a large inhale bypassing the mouth straight into the lungs, think of the way in which you inhale a ventolin, you inhale directly to the lung. This style of vaping has a more airy inhale, (not a tight or restricted draw), requiring more powerful devices and generating more cloud production.
TIP: Most of our customers want to replicate the cigarette experience and will select a mouth to lung device to start with
Most starter kits have a simple single button operation, do not have a digital screen for power adjustments and may or may not have an adjustable airflow feature, (some have no buttons at all requiring only the action of inhaling to be activated). They are a great way to get started and ensure the transition from smoking to vaping is simple.
More features and settings, come with pros and cons. While there is more flexibility and customisation available, some knowledge is required on how to operate and manage the device to ensure you do not burn coils or damage the device.
TIP: If you’re unsure, we recommend starting with a single button device, however if you are somewhat technically minded, variable setting devices should suit you just fine
Care of device:
Every vapouriser requires some maintenance, even the most basic models. The most important of these is replacing the coil in your tank, (or replaceable pod). The coil plays a crucial role in creating vapour and delivering flavour. Overtime the coil becomes degraded causing a loss of flavour or poor quality flavour and/or vapour at which point it must be replaced.
The life span of a coil depends on a variety of factors, but generally last between 1-3 weeks, with an average cost around $3-$7 per individual coil, (most coils are sold in a pack of 3 or 5). Two main factors that impact coil life include: Type of e-liquid, (sweet and or dark juices will burn out your coil sooner), Style of vaping, (many vapers are consistent or chain vapers – this causes the coil to dry out and if insufficient time between puffs occurs the next draw can cause a coil to become burnt)
When changing your coils, it is a good opportunity to rinse your tank under warm, (not hot) water and let dry before reassembling, We do not advise washing your coil, these are disposable.
TIP: If you have any questions about the care of your device, please do not hesitate to send us an email or give us a call.
Choosing a flavour:
This is probably the most tricky part, but also some of the most fun. Like anything relevant to flavour, this is going to be entirely subjective. We recommend to our new vapers, to try flavours in smaller bottle sizes to start with, this means that should you not enjoy the flavour, it is not a big waste, (of both juice or money), and you can start to learn which flavours you like and which you strongly dislike, before venturing into larger bottles.
TIP: VAPR offers a sample juice pack of 5 x 10ml bottles and these can help you identify which flavours suit you best, when you are starting out, keeping your cost and wastage low.
The purpose of vaping juices with nicotine in them is to continue receiving the nicotine while reducing the large quantity of chemicals in cigarettes. The nicotine in a juice also provides that throat hit sensation, which almost all smokers are looking to experience. For this reason, using nicotine at the beginning of your vaping journey is a popular choice for most. There is more information about where to source nicotine and how to mix it here, but as always, if you would like any further help, please call or email us.
TIP: It is illegal in Australia to sell, supply or gift nicotine juice. For this reason, most vapers will look into importing the nicotine and will add the unflavoured nicotine solution into their juices. Care must be taken when handling nicotine and relevant state laws must be adhered to.
We do not recommend purchasing nicotine liquids from shops who sell it. Besides being unlawful, rarely has the proper storage requirements been met and these juices are of poor quality.
